Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process of faith development and catechesis by which adults and children age 7 are initiated into the Catholic Church through the reception of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This process includes several stages and ritual steps that assist the catechumen (unbaptized) or candidate for full communion (baptized) in their process of formation and conversion. Parishes provide catechumens and candidates with sponsors who accompany the catechumens and candidates and give them support on this faith journey. For the unbaptized and for many candidates for full communion, the journey culminates in the reception of the sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil liturgy. 

Ministry Formation Services offers an annual workshop each fall for parish initiation teams, a diocesan handbook for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, and coordinates the annual Rite of Election on the First Sunday of Lent.
