Outreach to Inactive Catholics/Landings
Ministries of Welcome and Hospitality
-
for those seeing a path back to the Church and the Sacraments
"We want to let our inactive brothers and sisters know that they always have a place in the Church and that we are hurt by their absence -- as they are. We want to show our regret for any misunderstandings or mistreatment. And we want to help them see that, however they feel about the Church, we want to talk with them, share with them, and accept them as brothers and sisters. Every Catholic can be a minister of welcome, reconciliation, and understanding to those who have stopped practicing the
faith." - Go and Make Disciples, United States Catholic Bishops, 1992
Landings
Landings is parish-based ministry that empowers laity to welcome back returning Catholics. Landings participants meet in small groups for 8 - 10 week sessions, share their faith and their own struggles and help heal wounds and misunderstandings.
For more information about Landings contact: www.landings-international.org. To learn how to start Landings in your parish, contact joceline.lemaire@dioceseofnashville.com. Inactive Catholics can also find support at www.OnceCatholic.org.
"Landings has been an opportunity for members of our
faith community to share their faith journeys with those wanting
to return to the Church. It is also a valuable time for them to
learn about the changes that have occurred in the Church over
the years. We hope that the returning Catholics will bond with
one another and with members of our Landings team and will experience
our parish as a permanent, welcoming family." - Fran Rajotte,
Landings Team Leader, St. Matthew Church, Franklin, TN
"Landings works because of the opportunity to pray together, share
faith journeys, discuss Catholic themes, and answer
questions all in an environment built on faith, trust and acceptance.
The gifts of faith enrichment, compassion and understanding that
Landings team members have received by participating in this ministry,
have far surpassed our expectations." - Mary Hayden and Dottie
Grief, Landings Team Leaders, Holy Family Church, Brentwood, TN
