Catholic Day on the Hill set for March 18
Catholics from across the state are once again invited to participate in Catholic Day on the Hill on Wednesday, March 18, so they can meet with their state legislators to advocate on issues impacting the dignity and life of the human person.
The event at the State Capitol, sponsored by the Catholic Public Policy Commission, is an uplifting day of prayer, advocacy and education as participants share their Catholic viewpoint on issues with elected officials.
This year’s theme - “Human Solidarity: We are all the body of Christ” is drawn from the basis of Catholic social teachings, which is the belief that human life is sacred and the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society.
Among the issues of most interest to the CPPC, which represents the legislative interests of the three dioceses in Tennessee, will be abortion, stem cell research, health care, immigration, and the death penalty. More information about the church’s position on these and other issues and legislation in Tennessee is available on the CPPC website: www.tncppc.org.
There will be two Catholic Days on the Hill this year. The first on March 18 is for adults, and the second is Wednesday, March 25, is for Catholic school students, their teachers and chaperones.
Registration is mandatory to attend either day. Catholic Schools Day on the Hill fee is $20 per student, teacher, or chaperone, and the adult Catholic Day on the Hill fee is $30 per person. This fee helps cover the cost of the day including materials and lunch.
The deadline to submit registration forms and fees for both days is Feb. 27. Registration forms and additional information are available on the CPPC website: www.tncppc.org.
After the registration form and fee have been received, participants will be sent a registration confirmation either by mail or e-mail. For more information, contact Kathleen Murphy, tncppc@bellsouth.net or (615)-828-4713.
